Why boycotting palm oil achieves nothing

Iceland is the first British supermarket chain which has decided to ban palm oil for its home-brand products. Activists ignore the complex reality of palm oil production and many studies showed the high production rate of palm oil compared to other crops. Europe is critical regarding Southeast Asia’s deforestation, while the same has been done in Europe centuries ago. Indonesia and Malaysia, the biggest palm oil producers, have taken some actions, Indonesia has signed a moratorium on new licence for palm oil plantations and Malaysia is moving to new trees that can produce more fruits with less lands.
