Nowadays, it is nearly impossible to avoid palm oil but it is hard to find a suitable alternative that would not lead to more deforestation (on of Lush‘s ethical buyers). Some countries are highly dependent to palm oil production, it employs millions of people. Moreover, the demand of vegetable oil is growing linked to the worldwide population growth. We need a blend of approaches – a strict commitment to sourcing sustainable palm oil accompanied by an overall decrease in the number of items we buy that contain it. Only 19% of palm oil is RSPO-certified, making it harder to find.
